PREVENTION IS IMPORTANT

Oral Health for Overall Health

Proper oral hygiene does not only prevent caries and periodontal disease but also affects our overall health and well-being.

At the practice of Peter J. Deschenes, DDS, Liz and Jennie have a thorough routine to meet all your preventive needs. Starting with a review of your mouth with the intra oral camera, where the hygienist and patient can see everything including areas of concern.  Followed by necessary digital x-rays (which have less radiation than traditional x-rays), and periodontal screening where inflammation and pockets in the gums are noted and discussed. Next is the Oral Cancer Screening, the most important part of the visit.  Feeling and looking for changes in the soft tissues is essential to overall health.  Then the cleaning, also called a prophylaxis or “prophy” is started with scaling, polishing and fluoride if necessary. For people who experience sensitivity during the prophy part, we have a few treatments we can use to minimize your gum or tooth discomfort.
